Liberty Glass

A public house tucked on a side street away from the Mississippi chaos, Liberty Glass is the kind of spot most bars tucked into old two-story houses can only dream to be. Sure, it's painted pink, run by siblings and populated with bikers, authors henpecking in between sips of fernet, and first dates seeking something intimate to share on their "how we met" section of TheKnot.com. But don't call it twee. Because this is one of the best damned bars in Portland, a spot where drinks like the house-toffee-infused Toffee Coffee ($7) are paired with Triscuit nachos and homemade comforts like pot roast. A place where the taplist tops out at four. A place where you'll roll your eyes at the old-school clawfoot bathtub in the second-floor bathroom, then sit on the covered front porch, taking deep drags of your cigarette and hoping to God that Liberty Glass doesn't suffer the same fate as half the buildings in the neighborhood. It can't. It's a place unstuck in time.
