Mountain Rescue Fundraiser

In a world full of karmic injustices, it's nice to see some good-natured balance—if only for one drunken evening in "Lil' Beirut." In an effort to literally pay back their rescuers, three local climbers saved after falling into a 400-foot crevasse on Mount Hood this past February (along with their five unscathed cohorts) are putting on this awesome silent auction and raffle. You know it's awesome when Lucky Lab brews a new beer for the occasion—Black Velvet Oatmeal Porter, which honors Velvet, the Labrador retriever who kept the climbers warm. And there's a dog corner. Donations are also being accepted to offset climber Christina Redl's $14,000 hospital bill. Lucky Labrador Beer Hall, 1945 NW Quimby St. 6 pm-midnight. missvelvet.net. Free (donations). Easy.

Saturday March 31

Adopt the Columbia

Getting trained to become an oil-spill first responder may not be the best selling point, but being lord over your own tributary or stretch of the Columbia River sounds enticing. Interested in becoming a Columbia Riverkeeper? Rachael Pecore teaches river-habitat assessment, local plant and wildlife identification, water testing and riparian restoration. Lunch provided. Columbia Crossings Yacht Center, 12050 N Jantzen Ave. Hayden Island. 10 am-2 pm. Call 541-399-1307 to register. Free. Easy.

Galaxy Golf Tour

How does scoring a C on a final exam sound? Not bad if you're a D student. The same concept applies to this "golf tour for the average golfer." With no Tiger or Sorenstam to shame your best score, the sky becomes the limit. A meager score of 95 or less on 18 holes guarantees your place on the green. So leave your handicap card at home (not required), bring along an average friend (two-person teams) and hit one into the pond. Tri-Mountain Golf Course, 1701 NW 299th St., Ridgefield, Wash. 11 am-12:21 pm (tee-off times). portlandgolftour.com. $65 (plus $15 cart fee). Easy-Difficult.

Sunday April 1

Bikes to Rwanda

Bikes and coffee—two things most Portlanders have a taste for. What better town, then, in which to hold a benefit dinner (three courses, plus libations) and silent auction (vintage Schwinn cruiser bikes up for grabs) to send 400 cargo bicycles to Rwandan coffee farmers? Fife, 4440 NE Fremont St. 5:30 pm (doors). Call 971-222-3433 to register. bikestorwanda.com. $75. Easy.
