Go outside, already! Filmed by Bike, Fri.-Sat. at Clinton Street. IMAGE: Ayleen Crotty

Friday-Sunday April 13-15

Filmed by Bike

Get pumped, Pedaltown! Ayleen Crotty's film festival of bike-themed shorts has finally bloomed. Need proof? Take a whiff of this weekend's (yes, seven showings this year!) lineup of films: Bicycle Messenger, a half-animated, half-live-action spin through Manhattan's rush-hour traffic; Unicycle Bastards Invade Portland, about a fourth-grader's unicycle woes; and Time Bike, a fantastical, two-wheeled PDX yarn. Plus, this year's most enviable raffle prize is an Electra Amsterdam. Early-bird tip: Opening night always sells out. Clinton Street Theater, 2522 SE Clinton St., filmedbybike.org. 7 and 9 pm Friday-Sunday, 5 pm Saturday (all-ages show). $5-$10 Friday, $6 Saturday-Sunday. Easy.

Saturday April 14

Step It Up 2007

What started as a grassroots effort in Burlington, Vt., to fight global warming is now a national Web campaign to get Congress to reduce carbon emissions 80 percent by 2050. Activities planned for Portland include a downtown rally, a climate-awareness bike ride, a concert, a walk and kid-friendly art. For the complete list of locations and times, visit stepitup2007.org. Easy-Moderate.

Melting Mountains Conference

A hodgepodge of local experts and officials, including PSU glaciologist Andrew Fountain and City Commissioner Dan Saltzman, speak on everything from glacier melt to regional efforts to curb our demise. Mazamas Mountaineering Center, 527 SE 43rd Ave., mazamas.org. 9 am-4 pm. $15. Easy.

Sunday April 15

Race for the Roses

That race organizers designed new routes for both the 5K run-walk and half marathon based on suggestions from last year's participants speaks nearly as loudly as the virtue of the race's cause (benefits Albertina Kerr Centers). Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., race4theroses.org. 7 am. $30-$60. Easy-Difficult.

Tuesday April 17

Umpqua Valley Slideshow

Note to self: There's more to Umpqua than ice cream. Oregon Wild and Bob Hoehne (of Umpqua Watersheds) dish the scoop on this valley's other sweet spots, like its hidden waterfalls, humongous old-growth trees and photographic vistas. Sellwood Public House, 8132 SE 13th Ave., 283-6343, ext. 224. 7 pm. Free. Easy.
