Northeast Alberta Street is fast becoming breakfast central, what with Vita, Chez What? and Groundswell going. Now add the Tin Shed Garden Cafe to your list of possible hangover helpers. Janette Kaden and Christie Griffin opened the cafe last week in the spot that used to house Rosalyn's at Northeast Alberta and 14th Place. It's open 6:30 am-3:30 pm Monday-Friday and 8 am-3 pm Saturday-Sunday. Breakfast includes scrambles, biscuits and gravy, omelettes and challah French toast. They get bonus points for offering potato cakes or grits with your eggs instead of the usual toast and homefries. Lunch includes panini, salads and burgers, oh my. Call them at 288-6966.

Mint (816 N Russell St., 284-5518) is joining the Sunday brunch brigade starting Feb. 24 from 11 am to 4 pm with sassy offerings such as a chorizo breakfast burrito with adobo sauce and avocado and French toast with banana rum sauce.
Karen Harding, owner of breakfast stalwarts Cup and Saucer and the Dahlia Cafe, is quickly building a very eggy empire; she recently added Cafe Lena to her diversified portfolio.
La Calaca Comelona , that authentico Mexican place, will be moving from its spot on Southeast 12th Avenue to 2304 SE Belmont St. in coming months

The 9th Annual Hillsdale Brewfest, which pits 16 McMenamins breweries against each other, turns on the taps Saturday, Feb. 16, from 11 am to 1 am. The brewers cook up special concoctions for the smackdown, and regular folk are the judges. The Hillsdale Brewery is at 1505 SW Sunset Blvd., 246-3938.
