[July 26th, 2006] Criollo LIVES—kind of. Patty Stearns , baker Melissa McKinney's "former right hand" at the recently shuttered Criollo Bakery, is currently creating cupcakes made from Criollo's dreamy chocolate-buttermilk cake recipe (as well as the big C's lemon mascarpone cheesecake) at her new job as the pastry chef for New Seasons Market in Sellwood . Swing by the market and give her a taste test every Tuesday-Saturday, 8 am-1 pm. >> A big fat congrats to the folks at Sweet Home's Fraga Farm Goat Cheese . Oregon's only organic goat dairy scored big last weekend at the American Cheese Society Conference when its raw-milk feta won top honors in the goat-milk feta category. Salem's Willamette Valley Cheese Co. nabbed blue ribbons for its queso fresco and cumin gouda. >> Psst: Compassion Over Killing 's newish website, www.vegportland.com , lets you search for vegan cheese pizza, faux meat restaurants and veg-friendly grocery stores, bakeries and caterers—all local and face-free.
