[September 27th, 2006] East Burnside's Olé Olé will soon have competition when Salem-based Mexican restaurant chain Los Baez moves in at 2424 E Burnside St., across from the Screen Door. The Portland restaurant (the Baez family's ninth since they went into biz in 1973) will offer Michoacán-style goodies, including lots of seafood and homemade flour tortillas. Co-owner Angel Baez hopes to open the doors by the end of the month, so P-town fans will no longer have to drive to Salem for a fix—according to rumors on portlandfood.org, people actually do this. >> As if we needed an excuse to drink, Pix Pâtisserie 's North Portland outlet recently unveiled weekly flights of liqueurs and spirits every Thursday night . This week it's "Herbal Concoctions, " and that includes green chartreuse and benedictine, among others, for $10 total. Eyeball www.pixpatisserie.com for a list up upcoming sips. >> Home cooks looking to go pro have a friend in lauded local chef Robert Reynolds . On Oct. 9 he's kicking off an eight-week cooking course similar to the intensive lessons he's been teaching in France since 1987 right here in P-town in the warehouse-y space behind Ken's Artisan Pizza on Southeast 28th Avenue. But you'd better be serious: The course's price tag is $8,000. Visit chefrobertreynolds.com for details.
