The Road

The Road

The inspiration: Cormac McCarthy is one moody mofo. Why else would the author have created the utter hopelessness of his point-of-no-return, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Road? The film version, directed by John Hillcoat and starring Viggo Mortensen as “The Man” and Kodi Smit-McPhee as “The Boy,” was shot in various locations throughout the U.S., including the Columbia Gorge and the Oregon Coast. The film’s bleakly chic world perspective gave our stylist a chance to pair an expensive trench coat with a bunch of cast-offs from Buffalo Exchange. And that, my friend, is essentially most Portlanders’ idea of high fashion.
Release date: Nov. 26.

The fashion: On Jay: John Blasioli cobalt-blue trench coat, $349, abrokenspoke.com; Jonny Fenix custom-order T-shirts, $45, jonnyfenix.com. On Max: An assortment of children’s clothing from Buffalo Exchange, 1036 W Burnside St., 222-3418, and other locations, $5 and up.
