[March 1st, 2006] It's official: North Portland's once-trashy Boise-Eliot 'hood , the home of North Mississippi Avenue, has carved another notch on its big-business belt. Seattle's Grand Central Bakery opens its fifth Portland location in a renovated trucking depot on the corner of North Fremont Street and Borthwick Avenue on March 11. The artisan bread outfit's commissary, which prepares all its Portland bakeries' desserts, soups, sammies and salads, will also be located in the spacious new digs. An FYI for the NoPo purists though: Portland's Wonder Bread & Hostess Cakes outlet store is still goin' strong six blocks away at 103 N Ivy St. >> Speaking of carbo-loading, 3 Doors Down Cafe (1429 SE 37th Ave., 236-6886) co-owner Kathy Bergin reports that her Southeast Hawthorne area hidey-hole has finally kowtowed to the demands of "customers requesting, pleading and sometimes begging" for the restaurant to open its doors seven days a week . Pasta-jonesin' patrons can now get their noodle on every Sunday and Monday starting this week. Feed us your food news and gossip. Email us with all your tasty morsels.
