AMBIGUOUSLY FLY DUO: WW's Michael Byrne and City Commish Sam Adams do Saucebox.
BY WW EDITORIAL STAFF | newsdesk at wweek dot com

[October 18th, 2006] CHILD'S PLAY As if it weren't bad enough that Northwest Children's Theater and School terminated artistic director and founding member John Monteverde without warning this past June, the 13-year-old company has added insult to injury by producing Night of the Living Dead, a show Monteverde put on for the past five years. Monteverde, unperturbed, is mounting his own production of the George Romero adaptation with his new teen theater company, Blue Monkey , and the actors who originated the roles at NWCT. "I'm surprised that they're doing it," he said of NWCT's production. "They had to find a whole new cast." See Performance listings, page 65.

DJ DEMOCRACY What DJ dareth lead a set with a Seal remix? Portland City Commissioner Sam Adams , who made his first-ever appearance at the tables Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Saucebox for the bar's weekly "We Aren't Deejays" night. Unfortunately, despite bringing a proper set that included a few "gay dance music" cuts (his words), they were all on one mix CD, which kinda takes the "J" out of DJ. WW's own music correspondent Michael Byrne was there with his iPod to lend Sam a hand. Then again, Byrne's iPod was loaded with tracks that made Sam say more than once (something like), "Oh man, I'm a public figure...you're going to get me fired." C'mon, Sam, "She's a Bitchhole " is a classic.

GIRLS GONE MILD When a video crew from the Girls Gone Wild search for the "wildest bar in America" made a pit stop at Bliss on Thursday, Oct. 12—albeit without the official GGW bus, which had broken down in Eastern Washington —they found that P-town girls are more mild than wild. The voyeuristic frat boys who attended should have spent their $10 cover buying one of the videos (only $9.99!). The club was nearly devoid of sexy female coeds willing to flash the crowd for a new tank top. Despite lacking GGW-worthy females, Vancouver's Keno Leighty , who works as a manager at Portland's Barracuda, proved that we don't need GGW to bring creeps to town. Leighty, who hosted Bliss' unsuccessful attempts to get the girls crazy (including a banana deep-throat contest, an ass-on-glass contest and a whipped-cream wrestling contest ), joked about slipping one blonde a roofie to get her onstage, and called another female contestant fat and ugly , demanding she be replaced by "a hot chick."
