Byron Beck, former WW reporter and blogger-about-town (byronbeckwindow.ning.com), reports that Encanto, one of very few decent restaurants on outer North Lombard Street and just about the only New Mexican restaurant in town, closed its doors for good last weekend. Owner Michael Martinez has sold the business to Don Morris, who plans to reopen the restaurant as Cafe Cubano. A shame—no one else in town does a halfway decent green chile stew. More bad news for North Portlanders: Roux, Dwayne Beliakoff’s acclaimed Creole joint, is planning to move from North Killingsworth Street to Northwest —specifically the building at 321 NW Glisan St.—in late 2009.
