Many gift-givers must be a Scrooge this year and adjust their lists to account for the economic collapse.

And Portland psychologist Dr. Joseph Rhinewine says the recession is amplifying the usual holiday pressures to find a special something for everybody from a distant aunt to the FedEx guy.

“People get in trouble with their expectations,” Rhinewine says. “Just realize that everybody knows it’s a bad economy, so be aware of self-pressuring thoughts on how much to spend, look carefully at why you get gifts for certain people and get creative.”
