Bike to Market Day

If you need another way to act sustainably this week, the People’s Food Co-Op is offering incentives for those who bike to its farmers market. A variety of free bicycle-related services will be available as a way of saying thanks for helping save the planet. Throughout the market's regular hours, bike shop A Better Cycle will lead maintenance workshops while, from 3-6 pm, Seven Corners Cycles provides free tune-ups and repairs. Sip on a bicycle-powered smoothie as you boost your eco-cred by supporting local agriculture, or, at the very least, have your groceries pedaled home for you gratis. People's Food Co-op, 3029 SE 21st Ave., 232-9051. 2-7 pm. Free. Map

WW PickBrewer’s Memorial Ale Fest

The second annual Brewer’s Memorial Ale Fest—an homage to Brewer, the late CEO and resident black lab of Rogue Ales Brewery—will be held at Rogue’s main brewery in Newport. More than 50 microbreweries from across the country will be in attendance, including Oregon favorites Laurelwood, Ninkasi and Wakonda. The weekend features live music, an abundance of pooch-themed events (like celebrity look-alike contests and “doggie dancing”), and the unveiling of the 2008 batch of Brewer Ale, the ultimate tribute to his memory. Head down to the coast to share a cold one with your best friend. Rogue Ales Brewery, 2320 OSU Drive, Newport., 541-867-3660. 4-10 pm Friday, May 16, and noon-10 pm Saturday, May 17. $10 gets admission, a tasting mug, and five taster tokens. Map

WW PickNow That’s Amore

Giving away free pizza in the Big Apple would be financial suicide, but here in Portland, its all part of the celebration. On Monday, Escape from New York Pizza will be giving away free slices and drinks in honor of its 25th left coast anniversary. Workers in the pizzeria claim that a fair and balanced work environment is the reason for their longevity, but we say it’s their damn good pizza. Head out and judge for yourself, but make sure to tip your hat to owner Phil Geffner for a job well done. Escape From New York Pizza, 622 NW 23rd Ave., 227-5423. All day. Free. Map
