Bartender’s choice: The tattooed crew’s in no mood for B.S. A sign above the bar reads, “If you forgot your limit, we will tell you.”Gray and dusty, just like its name, Ash Street salutes the grittier side of rock. Local and West Coast bands pass through seven nights a week, and even in the middle of the afternoon, the Murder City Devils and Biohazard scream from the speakers. Best of all, the necessities for crusty rock-star living are right at your dirty fingertips: a cigarette machine, $1 PBRs (during happy hour) and the three-meals-in-one “Kick Your Ash” burger ($7), slopping over with egg, bacon and ham. HAPPY HOUR, GAMES, VIDEO POKER, OUTDOOR SEATING, JUKEBOX, LIVE MUSIC, COMEDY. (JM)

The Trucks, Von Iva, Boy Eats Drum Machine, Mattress
[FAT TECHNO BEATS] Out-of-town girls and Portland boys will drop fatty techno beats and lung-shaking bass lines that will turn the Ash Street Saloon into a digital dance floor. The four Bellingham beauties that make up the Trucks will be pumping their spastic, Casio-laden electro-pop alongside San Francisco-based trio Von Iva (no relation to Bon Iver, oddly). Von Iva will add more hip-shaking to the night with its combination of nts-nts-nts ’80s-style pop and syncopated speed rock. Two of Portland’s finest electronic troubadours—Mattress and Boy Eats Drum Machine—will set the stage for the gals. WHITNEY HAWKE. Ash Street Saloon 9:30 pm. $7. 21+.

Miles Hunt, Wayne Hussey, Lisa Dewey
[CULT BRITPOP ICON] As the leader of the Wonder Stuff, Miles Hunt with his snarky, world-weary and ridiculously catchy pop anthems seems to get lost in the post-Smiths pre-Blur Britpop dark ages. Since that band's demise in 1994 (though it has reunited since), Hunt has continued his witty and wise deconstruction of the American Dream and Bono through a sturdy series of solo albums, including his underrated 2007 effort, Not an Exit. ROBERT HAM. Ash Street Saloon 9 pm. $10. 21+.
Tuesday September 16
Panacea, Felicia and the Dinosaur, Another Fine Mess
[TOY POP] Felicia has a certain confidence beyond her years. To have a voice akin to Emily Haines' while playing towns like Newberg and Dundee is some feat. Her ivory-driven pop is catchy and robust and at times recreational, given life with the addition of a Casio and a sample or two—which proves to be the perfect counterpart to Panacea's harder-hitting jams. MARK STOCK. Ash Street Saloon 9:15 pm. Free. 21+.
