WINNERS
1. Yes, the series is a long way from
over, but the Blazers' Shaq-handling of the Lakers in Game
2 was redemption time for Rasheed Wallace. Two days
after being ripped by reporters and fans for getting ejected
from Game 1, the Blazer all-star forward led all scorers
with a career playoff high of 29 points, including a trio
of three-pointers within a four-minute span during the third
quarter. The post-game quote: "Nothing changed from Game
1." Take that.
2. Crow never tasted so sweet. Only days after acknowledging
a heartbreaking defeat of their $78 million ballot measure,
Portland Public Schools officials announced that
the measure squeaked by after all, thanks in large part
to a massive pre-election mobilization by the Portland Public
Schools Foundation and some diligent purging of the voter
rolls last weekend by county elections officials.
3. Long-suffering PDX passengers spread their wings
at the news that the airport will finally reopen its upper
roadway, closed since January for the installation of a
gigantic, $12.6 million canopy designed to postpone visitors'
exposure to Portland's unique form of liquid sunshine.

LOSERS
1. Perpetual loser Tonya Harding's days of skating
around her faux pas may be history. She just finished doing
three days in the Clark County jail for smacking her ex-boyfriend
upside the head with a hubcap, was lampooned as owning a
hubcap shop on KPAM, had a judge tell her she needs to stay
away from hooch, and now has to do 10 days picking up trash
like a common misdemeanant.
2. Ambitious kids just can't make a buck any more.
Last week the governor and other Ds slammed a proposal by
the Wage and Hour Commission to let children work late-night
hours.
3. They can run but they can't hide: There aren't many
left, but the target on the backs of feral pigs just
got bigger, now that the state says they can be hunted from
the air.
