WW Scoreboard

WINNERS

1. KGW-TV reporter and weekend anchor Kevin Roy is headed off to a bigger market. Roy moves to WLS, the ABC affiliate in Chicago, next month. Although he'd talked to WLS previously, Roy says a tape of KGW's joint investigation with WW into car-title lending clinched the deal for him.

2. Maybe it was because locals eat lots of cake. Whatever the reason, the Portland Art Museum scored when the Sara Lee Corporation donated a painting by the French Impressionist Édouard Vuillard to the museum last week. Only two other West Coast museums have received gifts from the liquidation of the company's $100 million art portfolio.

3. Just when it seemed that Portland State University was going to land a big-time coach, former Trail Blazers and Golden State Warriors boss Rick Adelman jilted the local school and waltzed back to the NBA. Terms of the Portland resident's deal with the Sacramento Kings haven't been announced, but they'll probably make PSU's offer look like meal money.

LOSERS

1. Visitors to the Portland Art Museum's Monet exhibit will have to stand on their heads to get the perspective offered by major sponsor Our Town. On its Sept. 14 cover, the newspaper printed The Pond of Water Lilies upside down.

2. Maybe state police superintendent LeRon Howland's popularity would increase if he started hanging out with interns. Just appointed to his second four-year term by Gov. John Kitzhaber, Howland nonetheless got nuked last week by his subordinates: 88 percent of Oregon state troopers surveyed said they had no confidence in him.

3. Some serious losers have been shooting blow darts at ducks and geese in Washington County's Commonwealth Park. Fortunately, their aim isn't very good: No birds have died yet. Animal abuse of this nature is punishable with a $5,000 fine and/or one year in jail. Call the Oregon Humane Society (285-7722 ext. 214) if you can ID these clowns--and pick up a $250 reward.
