Minor Effects

Their music's too heavy to make them the next Hanson, but the three members of Newberg's Minor Effects are in the same age group. Bassist Tommy Rice is all of 12, and he may be the youngest musician ever to have taken the stage at Satyricon--when he was 9. His older brother Andy, 15, handles drum and vocal responsibilities, while another 15-year-old, Jonathan Abeschier, plays guitar for the hard-rock band. The trio must carry a release from a Yamhill County judge in order to play in over-21 clubs.

 Buffalo

Three times a year, Fred Meyer meat lockers stock buffalo along with beef, chicken and pork. The indigenous American product is leaner than beef, and its smoky, rich taste makes it a much more satisfying red-meat indulgence than just grilling a regular burger. This season's bison burgers, steaks and roasts are close to running out. Look for
a fresh supply of the tasty meat in August.

Cheryl Weaver

Play the art market like a real collector: Discover a young painter or sculptor at a spring thesis show. Start at the Oregon School of Art and Craft on June 11, when extremely talented twentysomething student Cheryl Weaver displays her senior project--biomorphic forms created from epoxied industrial felt. Her gorgeous and unique sculptures are affordable but probably won't be for long, as Weaver is bound for the Art Institute of Chicago.

dELiA*s

Not since the young Brooke Shields starred in Blue Lagoon has anything short of Nabokov's story seemed so blatantly Lolita. In the dELiA*s clothing catalog, pubescent nymphets parade around in everything from chinoiserie dresses and halter tops to terry-cloth sandals and kickboxing attire--slipdress/ surf wear fashions with X-Girl
mettle at Old Navy prices. Uncon-ventional wisdoms such as "poke someone's eye out," "splash me" and "develop your ulterior motives" provide running commentary to the stylie, braless wonders, who are eerily sexy beyond their 13 years. Call 1-800-DELIA NY for a peek.
