WEDNESDAY
Portland Revels
All you Society for Creative Anachronism types, get rid
of that raggedy ol' cape and don some holly! This year's
theme is A Victorian Celebration, and that means a cheery
time warp to 19th-century England via period songs and dances,
comedy and "festive" audience participation. See a mummer's
play (we're talking freaky pantomime), the Portland Brass
Quintet, a parlor band, sword dancing, fools and magicians.
Tonight is the last night to enjoy this carnival of holiday
wackiness!
Scottish Rite Theater, 705 SW 15th Ave., 224-7411. 7:30
pm Wednesday, Dec. 13. Adults, $21; Seniors, $15; Children,
$10.
Fantasy Trail
Pay homage to the true gift of Christmas: WATTAGE! Take
a whimsical wander through the woods, but leave your breadcrumbs
at home; you will be safely guided by lights and music in
this arborial wonderland.

The Forest, The Trees, Salvation
If the prospect of surviving the season with the highest
suicide rate seems slim, and your idea of "holiday lights"
is setting a few malls on fire, I have the perfect distraction.
Go find the nearest pine tree and begin counting the needles
while sucking down some egg nog; by the time you finish
(or go blind), the season will be over, and a bunch of drunk
Scandinavians wearing green Gap gear will be lining up at
Kells. Spring is on its way!
THURSDAY

Today's matinee will be sign-language interpreted.
Newmark Theatre, 1111 SW Broadway, 274-6588. Noon Thursday,
Dec. 14. Call theater for other performance dates. Play

FRIDAY
Free Sing-Along Messiah
Kitsch or Christ? Whatever your particular take on the
holidays, this event will really satisfy! In this
day of the Individual, why not sublimate yourself and sing
along with the masses? And even though it's gonna be in
a church, my sources promise: No plate will be passed!

pm Friday, Dec. 15. !!!

Humane Society Holiday Open House
Do the Yuletide doggie-style and sniff out the nation's
newest state-of-the-art animal shelter. Invest your money
in a pet instead of buying more useless crap produced by
Third World child labor. Just remember to poke some holes
in that box before you wrap up Li'l Morris. All purchases
made from the Best Friends Corner store will benefit all
animals at the OHS. Bring pet-product donations to put under
the OHS tree before you do some heavy petting.
Oregon Humane Society, 1067 NE Columbia Blvd., 285-7722.
10 am-7 pm Saturday, Dec. 16. Priceless.
SUNDAY
The Aurora Chorus: Winter Sky

demographic. The Aurora Chorus will be performing an eclectic
vocalization of songs, from "Palestrina to gospel, Dvorak
to Disney, Scottish tunes to Hindu chant," according to
the press release. The event will also feature the reading
of Northwest poetry to create a reflective spell.

"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" Storytelling
Are the manic gesticulations of Jim Carrey no longer appealing?

including the Dr. Seuss favorite.
