Forever

Well, kiddies, the time we were waiting for has finally come.
The Spice Girls have released their third album--and it
kicks a lynx's ass! Anyone expecting "Tell me what you
want/ What you really, really want!" had better stick with
those backwards Backstreet Boys albums, because the Girls
of Spice have grown up! Dropping their trademark superpop
sound for a more mature late-teens/early-20s groove, they've
also ditched the names of yesteryear, which only ghettoized
each girl and hindered their collective creative power. Now
going by Mel C, Mel B, Victoria and Emma, the Spice Girls
are here--Forever!
The first single off the album, "Holler," has already nailed
down major by-request time on the Box and MTV. This is no
coincidence, being that this song reeks of super sweetness!
They even dabble with the infamous "talk box" on this one.
On "Right Back at Ya," Mel B--back to her original last
initial following her divorce--takes a shot at ye olde rappin'
once again. Not bad, either, as she puts Puffy, the Ruff
Ryders and Cash Money to shame. "Goodbye," a single released
little over a year ago, is rumored to be the girls' tribute
to Geri Halliwell, who abandoned the group for a solo career.
And where is she now? Probably back to posing for
naked tabloid pics and chasing soccer cock. In any case,
the song is a nice, slow and sensitive jam to put on in
case you're gonna do it all for the nookie! Yeah,
you know what to do with that Chips Ahoy!
"Let Love Lead the Way," on the other hand, is just a little
too obvious, wouldn't you say? "'Lead the Way' to
what?" your girl might ask, and then the dinner at Mickey
D's and the $14 you dropped at Little Nicky might
not pay off. This minor complaint aside, the Spice Girls
bring pop back to its heyday by reinventing their sound
again and kickin' all others to the curb. This album is
for the fans, like me, who never gave up on the girls. We
have been rewarded very nicely. Travis Frost
