I am of the opinion that blaming Portlandia for Portland's current growing pains is a drastic oversimplification of the issues facing the city. But I'm also a fan of a good ribbing, especially if it comes with an infectiously hummable melody. Lo-fi punk not-really-joking jokesters White Glove previously took on the Portlandiafication of Portland in their classic "Division Street" video. In "Fred and Carrie," from the trio's new album A Little Piece of Wood, they train their sights on the duo responsible for "running Portland into the ground," complete with two impostors giggling at decorated bicycles before getting chased out of town by an angry mob wielding brooms and saws. It's a revenge fantasy worthy of Quentin Tarantino.
The timing of the video isn't a coincidence, either: Portlandia's new season premieres tonight on IFC with an episode filmed last summer at Pickathon. Don't worry, haters: Only three more seasons left!
