Morrison Bridge to Be Lit Purple Tonight in Memory of Prince

The weekly Thursday Night Ride is expected to become a de facto memorial as well.

Prince, the legendary singer and musician, died today at age 57.

Tributes have poured in from across the music world, and beyond. And Portland is paying homage in its own way, too.

Tonight, the Morrison Bridge will be illuminated in purple, mirroring several bridges in Prince's home state of Minnesota.

Portland's bike community is also planning to memorialize the late icon, according to Bike Portland. Although tonight's weekly Thursday Night Ride has no set theme, based on Facebook discussions it is expected to become a de facto Prince tribute, as happened when fellow icons David Bowie and Michael Jackson passed away.

The ride meets up at 7 pm at the Salmon Street Fountain.
