Last Night's Jesus and Mary Chain Show at Crystal Ballroom Was Cancelled Due to Downtown Power Outage

The venue was unable to reschedule the date before the band returns home from its North American tour, and is now offering refunds.

Usually when the Crystal Ballroom is forced to cancel a show, it's because a bunch of rambunctious teenage rap fans went a little too hard on the 100-year-old building and ended up damaging the infrastructure.

In the case of last night's axed Jesus and Mary Chain show, blame Pacific Power.

A fire in an underground vault left a wide swath of downtown without power Monday night, including the Crystal, forcing the venue to call off the legendary Scottish band's first Portland show in nine years shortly after doors were scheduled to open.

The venue was unable to reschedule the date before the band returns home from its North American tour, and is now offering refunds. If you paid in cash, you'll have to wait a little longer, as power is still out downtown and isn't expected to be restored until this evening.

Here's the Crystal Ballroom's official statement on the matter:
