Just Under 25 Percent of Voters Have Cast Ballots for May 17 Primary Election

Turnout levels higher than 2012 but lagging behind 2008.

With three business days to go before ballots are counted for the May 17 primary, just under 25 percent of voters have turned in their ballots.

That's better than the last presidential primary year, 2012 when only 19 percent of voters had turned in their ballot at this point, but not as good as 2008 when 29 percent had turned in their ballots.

Figures gathered by the secretary of state's elections division show that turnout has averaged 47 percent over the past three presidential primary elections.

Ballots must be returned to drop-off spots by 8 pm on May 17 to be counted. Here are the designated drop spots in Multnomah County.
