Our Oregon today named Becca Uherbelau its new executive director.

She will replace Ben Unger, who has led the public-employee backed political group since 2014 and previously announced plans to move to Georgia.

Before joining Metro, Uherbelau ran numerous campaigns and previously worked for the Oregon Education Association which, along with Service Employees International Union and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, provides significant funding for Our Oregon.

She also serves as board chair for Planned Parenthood Associates of Oregon. (Planned Parenthood, the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association and the Oregon League of Conservation Voters are also funders of Our Oregon.)

"I am excited and proud to continue Our Oregon's record of fighting for economic and social justice for all Oregonians," Uherbelau said in a statement. "Moving forward, I am committed to working in coalition to ensure we're helping build electoral power in communities of color and other historically oppressed communities."

Our Oregon, a 501c4 non-profit, has had a remarkable track record of defending against conservative ballot measures and passing progressive ones. It was successful 19 times in a row from 2006 through 2016—when Ballot Measure 97, a tax hike the group backed, failed.

"We are so excited to have Becca lead Our Oregon," said Trent Lutz, head of public affairs at the Oregon Education Association in a statement. "She is a proven advocate and coalition builder, and Becca's experience running successful campaigns will be critical as we continue to fight on behalf of all Oregonians."
