WW PickThe Strange Boys, Sexy Water Spiders, Mystery Light

[AUSTIN'S NEWEST NOISEMAKERS] Ryan Sambol, frontman for the Texas-based shambolic garage group known as the Strange Boys, has a voice that will either give you hope for your own rock-star dreams or put you right off your lunch. It's a more nasally version of the strained croon Hamilton Leithauser uses in the Walkmen, but with a tossed-off feeling that sits so well with the laconic jangle of the band's sound. The band doesn't try to rewrite the rulebook for R&B-influenced rock, but with Sambol front and center, it certainly makes it its own. ROBERT HAM. East End $7. 9 pm. 21+.
