Mark, don't you think you owe an apology to Mr. Chlapowski for Nigel's article, full of the insinuations of (a) untoward relations between him and the mayor, (b) Mr. Chlapowski's poor work ethics? The article hints that Mr. Chlapowksi has done little useful research for the mayor's office. However, his research projects released by the City Hall are certainly substantive, competent, and useful. They disprove Nigel's damaging innuendo. Where is your reaction? Why did you not require that Nigel first research his topic and then attack people's reputations? His article contained ZERO evidence of Mr. Chlapowski's lack of qualification.

Andrew,

1)The story does report that some in city hall thought the two might be having an affair, but the story goes on to show that despite such chatter, there is no hard evidence and that both men deny anything happened. 2.The story does quote Bureau of Environmental Services director Dean Marriott saying of Chlapowski that,

There is no evidence at all except that they're both gay! Utterly ridiculous. This story never would have been reported like this if this had been a man/woman working together. The title of the article alone is completely misleading and irresponsible.

Dear Mark,

I understand your desire to defend your employee and your publication but your definition of innuendo is too narrow. Imagine another Portland paper publishing an "investigative" report that will state that Mr. Mark Zusman is believed by many to have an unusually small penis and to insert in forcefully into his subordinates in the office. Then the report will go on saying that other sources in Mr. Zusman's office disagree with such an interpretation of events and are confidant that Mr. Zusman only insert his penis in his legal spouse. Now please tell me, will this "report" constitute damaging innuendo or not? It mirrors both the structure and the style of Nigel's article.

Please explain what exactly the title "The Third Man" is supposed to mean. The WW has already shared with Portland the names of at least three men that Sam Adams slept with, so what makes the subject of this story the third man. Is this a reference to a menage a trois? Was this also a rumor at city hall or did you guys come up with this one on your own.
