Some Actions Are Not Excusable
How surprised I was to read
supporting the recall of Sam Adams ["Sign It,"
July 22, 2009], and yet, I too feel I have been forced into this position.
WW raises valid points, but I am willing to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. As you pointed out, everyone lies about their sex life (whether they are having it or not).
My disappointment with our Mayor lies with his raising donations for OBT from companies hired by the city (an abuse of power in my opinion), and letting his mortgage go into foreclosure proceedings (just plain wrong for a steadily employed homeowner).
Both of these show poor decision-making on his part. Granted, I am sure he has been under tremendous stress in addition to his normal duties. But some actions are just not excusable. Sorry Sam, I have been a longtime supporter, but you have made supporting your mayorship futile.

CORRECTION: WW incorrectly reported last week in "Vanilla Slice" that U.S. Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley "recommended" five white, straight male lawyers for two open federal judgeships. In fact, a committee set up by the senators selected the finalists. The senators will forward, rather than recommend, those names to the White House. Subsequently, Wyden will interview the five and then may or may not "recommend" two finalists. This process represents a departure from the past, when Wyden would have simply given the president one name. WW regrets the error.
