Authorities say they’ve caught the so-called “River Rat.” The suspect in multiple bank robberies on both sides of the Columbia—32-year-old Alexey Perez-Hernandez—was caught Oct. 11. An alleged accomplice, Travis Oles, 35, was also arrested in Northeast Portland.

The Women of Faith conference at the Rose Garden arena was postponed for a day Oct. 9 when arena employees found a suspicious device in a women’s restroom. Police called in the bomb squad, which determined the device was just a plastic cylinder and not dangerous.

Mercy Corps on Oct. 9 held the grand opening for its new 83,000-square-foot global headquarters. The building is open to the public for visits and to learn about the agency’s global humanitarian work.

Three men allegedly robbed a licensed marijuana barn Oct. 9 and led police on a chase down I-205. One man was caught, but two others managed to escape.
Hillsdale
SW Capital Highway & Sunset Blvd., Portland OR
A man followed a woman off a TriMet bus Oct. 7 and sexually assaulted her across the street, then got back on another bus headed downtown. TriMet cameras took photos of the man as he entered and left the bus, and officials are asking for help in the case, calling the incident a “stranger-on-stranger” assault.
