FREE WEDDING DRESSES: Well, OK, not exactly free. But in the crazy bizarro world of the wedding industry, a $99 gown might as well be. Brides Against Breast Cancer is a touring sale of used-but-good wedding dresses at 25 percent to 75 percent off retail that benefits the Portland-based Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation. The Oregon nonprofit’s biggest sale of the year is this weekend at the Lloyd Center DoubleTree. All proceeds go toward granting the wishes of stage IV breast cancer patients. 1000 NE Multnomah St., bridesagainstbreastcancer.org. 11 am-8 pm Friday, 10 am-8 pm Saturday, 10 am-5 pm Sunday, Jan. 22-24. Free admission, dresses $99-$799.
CHEAP BEER: Northeast Portland’s Upright Brewing Co. makes some fine Belgian-style brews. They retail for about $10 a bottle, but you can sample the whole line for $2 to $3 per 12-ounce glass at the brewery’s tasting room (a tasting tray of six 4-ounce pours runs $5). 240 N Broadway, 735-5337, uprightbrewing.com. Tasting room open 1-6 pm Saturday-Sunday and 6 pm until tipoff on Blazers home-game nights.
FREE FOLK: Akron/Family, Au, Wow Flutter. There is something for every music fan at this all-ages, free concert, sponsored by the folks behind the Portland Folk Festival (coming this summer). And while tonight’s lineup offers another economical chance to catch local vets like Au and Wow Flutter, the real reason to venture out into a cold, rainy winter’s night is Brooklyn’s Akron/Family. Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison St., 239-7639, holocene.org. 6:30 pm Saturday, Jan. 23. Free. All ages.
FREE ENTERTAINMENT: This week the Fertile Ground festival brings more than 50 new pieces of performance art to Portland stages. Many of them are free, and many more are darn cheap. See our listings for details, or visit fertilegroundpdx.org.
