Try Real Solutions for Real Problems

[Re: "House Divided," WW, Jan. 13, 2010:]

Obama does not fix the problem in one year, so let us have a big protest in San Francisco. How long have the people traveling there been homeless? How many other presidents have failed them before? How, dare I say, have they failed themselves? There are poor people because they have lost their jobs and there are poor people because they have lost their way. There are as many people who have no housing due to the unscrupulous practices of the banks under Bush as there are people who have no place to live because they are addicts who have driven themselves down.

Gathering this mix up and taking it on the road to sing songs and tell stories is not going to light a fire under politicians to get things moving the way these people want. Did the people standing in Pioneer Courthouse Square EVERY Friday for eight years get Bush impeached or stop the military action in the Middle East?

The protest is an annoyance but not an effective way to communicate.

This from the same city that donated more money to cat shelters than to Habitat for Humanity.

If the people in your own town do not take the housing situation as a priority over cats, then you have already failed before you even begin.
