Prescott Cafe

This longtime eatery in the Cully neighborhood draws a clientele that dates to when the earth cooled. And wisdom must come with all those gray hairs, because this is a very solid place to grab an inexpensive and tasty breakfast or lunch. The breakfast basics are all there in plentiful servings: Special kudos for the thick, housemade hash browns and crisp bacon. And you can't go wrong for lunch, either, with sandwiches (try the yummy albacore tuna) that come with thinly sliced fries as a side. If you've got room, a warmed piece of housemade blackberry pie is a sweet wrap to your visit. Waitresses are just as homespun as the food, making you feel cozy and welcome even if you're a first-time customer. Dog-eared Trivial Pursuit cards at each table complete the cafe's very homey feel.

  1. Best Bite: Housemade hash browns ($2.50).
  2. Best deal: Housemade cinnamon roll ($2) that’s awesomely slathered in sugary goop and roughly the size of a small child’s head.
  3. I’ll pass: Chicken-fried steak with two eggs ($8.50). Unless, of course, you’re one of those perverse people who likes chicken-fried steak.
