GET ROCKED: Our annual, always awesome Best New Band show is this Friday. As of deadline for this column, I don't know who's playing—seriously, it's like Apple HQ over in the WW Music Department, what with the secrets and the iPhones and the occasional bout of screaming from the boss—but you can bet they'll be good. I'm guessing Celilo and Dirty Mittens will play, but that's a stab in the dark. Anyway, since this is now Wednesday, you can flip over to page 17 to find out. Berbati's Pan, 231 SW Ankeny St., berbati.com. 9 pm Friday, May 7. 21+. Free.
GET INSPIRED: Write Around Portland will host five two-hour writing workshops at coffeehouses around the city starting Tuesday, May 11, and ending Saturday, May 15. The workshops, which include journals, pens and snacks, are free and open to anyone who registers. Visit writearound.org/events/events.html for the complete schedule and email firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
GET AIR: Al Lee, who is some sort of breathing guru and the co-author of Perfect Breathing: Transform Your Life One Breath at a Time, will give a free tutorial on breathing techniques to "boost your immune system, lower blood pressure, accelerate healing and improve creativity and stamina" at Pacific NW Pilates on May 5. I don't know if I buy all that, but I bet it will at least be relaxing. 5201 SW Westgate Drive, Suite 114, 292-4409, pacificnwpilates.com. 7:15-8:15 pm Wednesday, May 5. Free. RSVP to email@example.com.
GET FED: H5O Bistro & Bar is extending its "Toss Up Tuesday" promotion through May 31. We've covered this one before, but here's the gist: Head to the restaurant on a Tuesday night, and at the end of your meal a waiter will present you with a coin to flip. If you win the toss, your dinner, minus drinks, is free. If you lose, you have to pay. 50 SW Morrison St., inside Hotel Fifty, 484-1415, h50bistro.com.
GET CLASSILY DRUNK: Ten 01's new sommelier, Jeff Groh (former somm Erica Landon left in February to run marketing for Hawks View Cellars just oustide Sherwood), is evidently trying to burn through some inventory—the restaurant has a list of 50 wines of all sorts that it's offering at 50 percent off on Sundays. Given the restaurant's modest wine markup (by industry standards), that means most of these bottles will be cheaper than retail. 1001 NW Couch St., 226-3463, ten-01.com.
GET DRUNK AFTER CLASS: Students (over 21 years of age, obviously) with school ID get $1 Hamm's and Pabst on Tuesdays at the Black Cat Tavern. Say hello to Crazy Mama for me, 'kay? 8230 SE 13th Ave., 235-3571.
