In a town where cramped and quirky is cool, the bright and spacious Alameda Cafe is a rare sanctuary. Here, hearty favorites are delicately flavored, turning the turkey pot pie ($9) into a surprisingly sophisticated dish. A flaky puff-pastry crust sits high atop a bowl of colorful vegetables, juicy turkey breast and gravy seasoned with fresh herbs. Sadly, the chocolate cake ($5)-a dry, waxy mound-doesn't complement the restaurant's savory fare. (JD)
