On Aug. 24, Hawthorne's haute-hippie Sapphire Hotel (5008 SE Hawthorne Blvd., 232-6333) played host to a runway (OK, barway) show of new cool-weather creations from five Portland clothing designers (Jessica Beebe, Alice Dobson, Jennifer Frost, Genna Golden and Stella Sacdalan, who also emceed). Showcasing rich fabrics and dramatic details (one word: bandoliers), designs by this motley crew of newcomers and come-againers displayed the most polish, ambition and invention PDX indie fashion has seen yet.
