Cheap Eats 2005

There are 14 variations on the traditional Vietnamese pork sandwich here, and two of the best-lemongrass beef ($2.75) and sweet-chili chicken ($2.50)-don't even have pork in them. The thinly sliced meats, paired with julienned veggies, sweet-chili and sirachi sauces, are wrapped in a French roll. All this, mind you, for less than the price of a double mocha. There are other things on the menu-assorted bentos for an astronomical $4.50-but why bother? For the cheapest of cheap eats, stick to what Cali does best-sandwiches. (KBC)
