Cheap Eats 2009

It's entirely too easy to contemplate subsisting on nothing but banh mi, since the Vietnamese crusty baguette sandwiches are so satisfying yet so stunningly cheap. Binh Minh's versions fulfill both those requirements handily; $2.50 will get you a baguette stuffed with pickled daikon and carrot, jalapeño, mayo and a shot of sauce with your protein of choice. The BBQ Pork, for instance, sports the best type of pork funkiness with just a hint of sweetness, while the cured pork has a dab of pâté to offset the deep saltiness of the meat. Having three meals a day here would cost just $8. That's some compelling math.
