Cheap Eats 2010

This bustling Belmont brunch spot is eclectic without being quirky. It has mastered typical breakfast fare like scrambles served with potato pancakes (skip the breakfast potatoes, which are unfortunately bland). The Bacavo—bacon, avocado and blue cheese—is typically creative, simple and fresh. But Utopia also serves a number of exciting dishes for egg agnostics: The hot wild rice with brown sugar, raisins and hazelnuts ($3.95-4.95) is milky perfection on a rainy day; fried cornmeal with syrup is a Southern comfort ($5.95); and the pillowy housemade brioche french toast ($5.75-6.75) might sway even the most devout believer in salty’s superiority to sweet.
