Cheap Eats 2008

The service at this Rose City Park corner cafe is notoriously oblivious, but a late-morning (or early-afternoon) trip yields a moderately speedy breakfast. The cheery purple-and-goldenrod-colored space, with storybook illustrations hanging on the walls, is comfy and chill, and offers a hearty espresso menu to complement the variety of eggs Benedict (try the Florentine, $9.95, served with garlic-laced spinach). You will not leave here hungry if you opt for the home fries—sliced red potatoes grilled and served by the plateful. Tip back a mocha and try one of the adventurous scrambles and a side of dependable pancakes. (SS)
