At least that's the case with Wimpy's, one of Nob Hill's last bastions of divey goodness. On a recent visit, the dark and smoky joint's devilish decor was found newly adorned with depictions and models of huge, 19th-century-lookin' sailboats, a framed world map and gilded sea kitsch—a knobby, seaworthy ship's wheel hangs from the door, and a huge mermaid bust reaches out over the bar. Never fear, behind those new black 'n' gold brocade curtains (which upgrade privacy on the bar's O'Brien's-joining, window-clad side), Wimpy's is still serving $2 vodka wells and $3 Wimpy burgers (with bacon and fries!) every single day. Even Cap'n Wimpy needs a good, cheap burger.
Perfect Patron: Thrifty regulars and less-yuppified hoodies who value Ripley's Believe It or Not! pinball as much as cheap-ass wells. (AGM)
