Cheap Eats 2009

The peaceful atmosphere at this Pearl neighborhood vegan eatery is only marginally disrupted by meager seating and commuting yoga students in the adjoining studio. The simplicity of presentation and complex depth of flavors of the inspired food are surprising—even self-proclaimed "massive meat-loving carnivore" Trail Blazer Channing Frye lists BL as a personal favorite on his blog. Try the Thai peanut bowl ($10) or the spicy avocado sandwich ($8) for lunch and the barbecue tempeh platter ($11) for dinner. Rain be damned, the housemade vegan soft serve ($3.50) is available year-round. (SJ)
