Drink 2008

Quell your travel anxieties with a stiff one at this throwback restaurant and lounge adjoining Union Station. The food, drinks and atmosphere are reminiscent of those at your average catered wedding or convention: not bad, but sort of out of touch. Indeed, the venue is often booked for private events—call ahead. The maroon and forest green chamber evokes a fancy lounge in suburban Illinois: high-backed Mad Hatter chairs, ornate chandeliers, splatter-paint art. The drink menu includes an assortment of fruity vodka drinks, a long list of coffee concoctions and a respectable selection of after-dinner ports and cognacs. Seasoned bartenders are delightfully saucy, yet respectful and professional. (SC)
