Drink 2010

This converted Texaco station has become both a solid weekend brunch option and a nightly hangout where residents from the gentrified neighborhood (kickballers flood the room on Sunday nights) can sample from an eclectic cocktails menu. The retro decor happily spares patrons the cavernous feel of a recycled warehouse. Instead, there's a cozier touch here that blends 1950s sleek booths with 1980s-era posters of Elvis Costello and the Clash. If you want to go outside, no matter the weather, there's a ground-floor patio with a fire pit and an upstairs patio that's heated. And if you're lucky, you'll get the same affable server we did to patiently explain the cocktail list, which includes both a "Pee-Wee" and a "Toast to Vanport."
What to drink: The District. Locally made Deco ginger rum with muddled lime and syrup in a bucket glass ($6.50).
Happy hour: $2.75 microbrew pints and well drinks 3-6 pm daily; cheap food 11 pm-2 am nightly.
Entertainment: Trivia nights, TV, Wi-Fi, fireplace.
