Drink 2010

"It tastes like Christmas." That's how a Vintage Cocktail bartender describes the Czech Becherovka herbal liqueur as he pours a taster ($2.75). The Montavilla bar owned by Justin Akins and his wife, Jaeymee, which opened last July, is packed with these kinds of boozy presents. The drink menu is long, with 20 house cocktails fortified by housemade tinctures (pure grain alcohol flavored with herbs and/or fruit) and a hefty spirits selection, along with five rotating taps ($2.50-$3.50). And if you so much as whisper that you like whiskey or bourbon within earshot of owner Justin, he's likely to consult his libation library (a stack of books balanced atop the refrigerator) and loan you a whiskey tome to study.
What to drink: The $11 flight of three rotating whiskeys.
Happy hour: $1.50 domestic tallboys, $2.50 well drinks, $4 wine; 5-7 pm and 11 pm-close daily.
Entertainment: Lending library.
