Formed: On a football field in Vacaville, Calif., in 1993.

Members: Jacoby “Coby Dick” Shaddix (vocals), Jerry Horton (guitar), Tony Palermo (drums), Tobin Esperance (bass).

Sounds like: Korn, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Alien Ant Farm, Disturbed, Hed PE, Sevendust, Godsmack, Staind, Static-X, Powerman 5000, Drowning Pool, Orgy, Die Trying, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, Mudvayne, System of a Down, Incubus, Stabbing Westward, Filter, Jimmie’s Chicken Shack, Trust Company, Rob Zombie, Saliva, Coal Chamber, Fuel, the current version of Guns N’ Roses.

For fans of: Neck tattoos, self-loathing.

Latest release: 2010’s Time for Annihilation...On the Record and On the Road, a live collection of KUFO hits that showcases the band’s swift transition from early-aughts rap rock and nü-metal to hard-rock also-rans.

Why you care: CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES/ THIS IS MY LAST RESORT/ SUFFOCATION, NO BREATHING/ DON’T GIVE A FUCK IF I CUT MY ARM BLEEDING/ THIS IS MY LAST RESORT. Yes, Papa Roach made it big on a rap-rock classic about suicide, which led to a bunch of angry aggro dudes sitting alone in their rooms crysterbating. But! The band’s first hit, “Last Resort,” is kinda a perfect, stupid pump-up jam in the way that First Blood is a perfect action movie—just forget about the lyrics (or plot), shotgun a Rainier tallboy, and jump around until you can’t feel anything.

SEE IT: Papa Roach plays Saturday, April 30, at the Roseland Theater, with Finger Eleven and Pop Evil. 8 pm. $25. All ages.
