How fitting that the titular, big-eyed grub in E.T.: The Extraterrestrial is equipped with restorative powers, since the movie also has the gift of casting its viewers back into childlike, guileless bloom. Steven Spielberg's talent was always for making artificial colors and flavors taste fresh-picked, and he never put his confectioner's genius to any more concentrated effect. So E.T. is candy with a center made of memories we wish we had: No matter whether we've ever seen a redwood, we're all natives of Spielberg's California. Hollywood Theatre. 2 pm Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 10-11.
