Gemini Lounge: Double Trouble

GEMINI LOUNGE

I'm charitably inclined toward any business not gambling- or meth-related to make a go of operating on Foster Road, but Gemini Lounge (6526 SE Foster Road, 772-1117, geminiloungepdx.com) is really...shiny. The foil-backed flocked wallpaper and polished steel tables reflect the constellation of retro lamps overhead in a distressing miasma of orange and green. And then there are the twins: Most everything in the bar has a twin theme, from the menu of 12 flavors of sliders  (served in twos) to the dozens of drawings and paintings of twins that cover the walls. One pair of twins is cute; 25 pairs are creepy. If you can get past appearances, though, Gemini's not a bad place to hang: The sweet potato fries are nice, there's plenty of good beer on draft and more by the bottle, and every day brings a $5 cocktail special. Just don't order a Manhattan—mine was made with bourbon and dry vermouth.
