Before she got re-gilded, every Halloween season someone would put a big, real pumpkin over her head and voila, it was the Headless Horseman. Does this still happen, and is it sanctioned?
I remember the pumpkins, as well as Santa hats and matching horsey-antlers. I also remember some kind Portlanders throwing protective face masks on the pair after the city was lightly buried in St. Helens' ash back in 1980.
