Special Bulletin: Spring is here--really. And while there's plenty of gloom (and boom) clouding our springtime skies, not even a Rumsfeld press conference can completely douse the buoyancy, the optimism, the friggin' epic ebullience of our most optimistic season.

In fact, peace-loving designers everywhere have embraced our better Nature by sending out clothes bursting with bold florals, many Asian- or retro-inspired. Fabrics like crisp shirting poplin, baby-wale corduroy and rustling silk give us touch-me pleasure, and every piece basks in the brightest tints of the born-again garden. Hallelujah, sisters, the world does go on. We suggest you rush right out and pluck yourself a big bouquet of Spring's fresh, fertile styles. You look like you could use a little color.

Nothing says "homeland security" like a snug-fitting quilt. Ruth wears a Beth Bowley quilted cotton top ($135) and skirt ($178), both from Mercantile (735 SW Park Ave., 223-6649). Puma Japandal in Strawberry Ice, $35, Baddoll Shoes & Oddball 2 (808 NW 23rd Ave., 525-2202).
Bad, but not all the way to the bone. This look blends skin-deep-sweet pink with just enough tough. Because every modern girl has her moods. Krystal S. wears a Cameron pink-and-turquoise fitted zip jacket ($88), Odessa (718 NW 11th Ave., 223-1998). Cherry-blossom print silk skirt ($158), Michelle de Courcy (www.michelle
decourcy.com). Bird and blossom wife-beater tank ($18), Urban Outfitters (2320 NW Westover Road, 248-0020). Orange grommet belt ($20), Urban Outfitters. Crystal drop earrings, model's own.
