CHASING ICE - IMAGE: James Balog
National Geographic photographer James Balog might be called the innovator of ice porn. In the documentary Chasing Ice,
he sets out to document melting glaciers around the world, selflessly
striving to capture images that will change dominant opinions about
global warming. As he and his team struggle to install cameras under
harsh Arctic conditions, the film illustrates the role of art as an
awareness-raising tool. Balog’s photos, too, are overwhelmingly
beautiful, and with its no-bullshit approach, Chasing Ice makes clear how losing glaciers will destroy our study of natural history.
