Brew Views: Bad Santa

In the scuzzball spirit.

BAD SANTA

Many will decry 2003's neoclassic holiday upheaval Bad Santa as a cynical and reactionary piece of humbuggery, but there's a surprisingly sweet element that lurks in the jacked-up odyssey of Billy Bob Thornton's lead, who goes from being a horrible drunk thief to being a horribly drunk thief who kind of tolerates one little boy. Nearly every holiday film comes wrapped in cynicism. George Bailey tried to kill himself due to Christmastime depression. Thornton just pisses himself in apathy, then goes fuckin' and fightin' his way to recovery. Who'd you rather drink eggnog with?
