A LATE QUARTET

If Jägermeister is the beverage of rock stars, then for a string quartet it must be a vigorously shaken bottle of champagne: refined, expensive and on the verge of exploding into an effervescent puddle of melodrama. In A Late Quartet, the personal problems of a world-renowned string quartet fizz over when beloved cellist Peter (Christopher Walken) is diagnosed with Parkinson's. It's a drippy, succulent scandal of a soap opera set to the tune of Beethoven, with far superior acting. Though at times a catalog of white-people problems, it's a lovely and painful look into the lives of classical musicians and their devotion to each other.
